A Friendly Reminder

“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I am a subscriber to Verizon services, I utilize the Fios internet and home land line. One of the things I have set up is email notifications regarding my monthly bill, sometimes I forget that the first notice has been sent regarding payment so they will send me a friendly reminder that the payment is still due. As I thought about the outcome of this election on various levels this friendly reminder visited me. Regardless of any outcomes the psalter helps us to shape our understanding as believers. I know the struggle of maintaining hope when hatred, oppression, racism, etc. seems to be the order of the day but we still have a reminder amidst of the struggle.

In our text the psalm identifies the owner of the world, this declaration points to the sovereignty of God. The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, this statement reminds me that creation still is under the control of the creator. Regardless of how much intellect, creativity, and advancement the Lord still has control. This verse according to James Mays, “is creation language that speaks of the world as the product of an ordering power who provides stable and reliable existence out of formless and unstable chaos. If the Lord can bring order to chaos in the past, then what makes us think it can’t be achieved again. I am just trying to remind someone today that you can rest in the fact that we still serve the one who has control over the earth and everything within. Ultimately the question we need to be asking is where have we placed our trust? Reminder is defined as a thing that causes someone to remember something. I came with a notice today by way of the psalms to help you remember who’s in control.
