Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Matthew 6:26 (NIV)
Most recently I have been doing research for my next sermon series, after the Philly Hits Summer series my mind has still been captivated by musical lyrics. I shared on Sunday that music is bridge that brings together generations of people, we may enjoy our different eras, but music provides us with an appreciation and tells a story of what each generational struggle has been. My study led me to American Rapper Kendrick Lamar 2015 single “Alright”, from his fourth album “To Pimp a Butterfly”. This song performed at Super Bowl LVI halftime show became associated with the Black Lives Matter movement. These recurring lyrics provide a reassurance that were inspired during a trip to South Africa and observing the plight that locals faced. “All my life I had to fight, All my life I-, Hard time like, “Yah” Bad trips like, “Yah” But if God got us, we gon’ be alright”.
These lyrics correlate to our verse for the day which reminds us that if God provides for the birds of the air, then how much more will our Father take care of us…... We Gon’ Be Alright. I know that at moments attempting to grasp those words seems foreign but when we place our trust in the loving God, we must release the worry and know God makes things work together for our good. Birds don’t reap, sow, or store away in barns yet they’re needs are continuously met daily; so, if God can care for a creature that does no labor how much more will be done for you. I know it’s rough, waiting can be frustrating, trying to figure out how this going and when this door going to open has its weight, but please remember our responsibility is to trust God. When you place your trust in God then you can have an assurance that “We Gon’ Be alright”.
