“” When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!”
Luke 15:17 NIV
One of the most interesting moments in the life of an individual is when they have come to their sense about a matter or situation. Think about the times when you may have been narrow minded, opposing, stubborn, etc. because you believed your view was the best; regardless of what others had to say no one could shake your position or stance. Until that moment when the light bulb came on or you came to your senses that there is another way, perspective, solution, or you’re not ready for it. I submit that it’s a struggle when you are unable to see past your own position, it’s dangerous to become so closed minded that your truth is the only truth. From my own personal experience when your mind is made up, there ain’t nothing you can do about it. What makes us become so conditioned mentally that we can’t escape our own thoughts even when they lead to negative outcomes? Why do we consistently find ourselves mistrusting familiar voices when they don’t feed our personal desires or ambitions?
Our verse is an excerpt from the story of the prodigal son, this young son decides he’s mature enough to handle life on his own. The son asks for his share in the estate then leaves home, once on his own the son gets caught in wild living and spoils all that he has. After losing everything, times become hard and he has to do something strange for some change, he becomes what he once owned, a slave. But verse 17 says when he came to his senses, when the light came on, when he realized the error of his ways, he decides I’m going home. Upon returning home the young son is received and embraced by the father. I think one of the major points of this story is that a person will not change or do anything different UNTIL THEN. UNTIL THEN is the moment that a person sees the light, when they recognize for themself, when they are ready to make the turn around. You cannot force a person into a different perspective or position until then arrives. How much energy have you squandered over the years because you didn’t understand “until then”? Like this prodigal until the person can come to their senses nothing will change, remember while waiting until then to extend the grace you’ve received.
Talk back to me about your until then moments…
