"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it." 2 Timothy 3:14 NIV
Today I have the privilege of watching my namesake walk across the stage as he transitions from High School graduate to second generation college student. As I reflected on these last 18 years of his life, what came to my mind is what have I passed down to him in his pursuit forward. What precious jewels or nuggets will be most beneficial in this new season of his life? When I watch certain movies, it always pulls on heart strings to watch jewelry whether earrings, necklace or rings being passed down through generations. Each of those symbols represent a passing of the baton, and I wonder what has been passed down to you that has helped you move forward.
The verse of today we find Apostle Paul speaking to his son in ministry Timothy, Paul is reminding Timothy don’t forget the precious jewels that have been handed down to you. The Apostle is not just speaking of his teachings but also those lessons from Timothy’s mother Eunice and Grandmother Lois. These women passed down a generation of faith to young Timothy and no matter where life took him, he can continue in what he learned. Listen, jewelry may fade, crack or even be lost/stolen but those precious jewels that are deposited into the heart never leave. I’m reminded of the words of Alan Jackson, “Precious memories, how they linger. How they ever flood my soul”.
Thank God for every precious jewel and depositor of the jewels.
